4 Questions with Outereach

After nearly 10 years together, Miami-based funkprogpop quartet Outereach is armed with tight rhythms and heavenly melodies and is one of South Florida’s most dynamic rock acts. The band’s level of musicianship, creativity as songwriters and fan base has continued to grow and evolve alongside the development of Miami’s burgeoning art scene. Eddy D., bassist and keyboardist for Outereach, took a few minutes to chat with us about their new EP and their awesome track “The District” (to be featured on our Free Song of the Day Newsletter on Monday, Sept 29).
1) Why should anyone listen to Outereach?
Listen to Outereach if you like quality, fun music.
2) Where did “The District” come from? What’s the inspiration behind it?
The District song was inspired by the greatest indie rock dance club by the same name to ever hit Miami. It was a place we went to escape, to dance, to drink to dream. When they shuttered their doors, we felt a tribute song was necessary. The song became an anthem (at least to us) about the “broken scene” in Miami and the disconnect between venues, promoters and artists.
3) What are you guys listening to these days?
The band has currently been drawing a lot of influence from the Latin electro pop movement – bands like Kinky and Bajofondo. Current hitsters Chromeo and MGMT are a lot of fun, while the genius of groups like 311 and The Police continue to seep their way into our music.
4) What are your plans for the rest of 2008?
2008 has already been a very good year for Outereach with the release of our EP ‘Music for Modern Living’ in May. The disk, our third release to date, has brought the band a ton of good press and as a result, bigger and better opportunities in South Florida. We’re planning to jump around Florida later this year, while we continue to work on our ‘treasure chest’ of new material and play our asses off in and around Miami.
