slotMusic.org: The Future of Music Sales?

I came across an ad in Rolling Stone about slotMusic.org, a new music “format” that is being hyped by major labels as “a versatile new physical music format for the 21st Century”. In short, the new slotMusic format is a 1 Gig microSD card preloaded with DRM-free mp3s (properly tagged and 320 kBPs) and videos that consumers can load into their phones, mp3 players and computers without limitations, passwords or access to the Internet.

One thing bands must understand that it is not enough anymore to be talented or have good songs. You need to take steps to build your own brand and make your band appealing to labels. Major labels seem to be only picking up established indie acts these days. Also, take the time to learn the basics about online music technology. Learn some basic HTML coding. Learn how to craft a press release or write a newsletter. You gotta learn how to do this, or you need to set aside some cash to hire someone to do it for you. Hit me up and I can help you determine your needs or how to use your band mates as resources.
Enjoy. Share.

Mohawk Bomb CEO wins Tampa Bay Business Journal Award
I am proud to announce that last night I was named one of 30 “Up and Comers Under 30″ by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Below is a pic of my bad ass Gold Record award. The event was funny because the theme was Rock and Roll and every company was referred to as a “record label” but we were the ONLY record label on the roster. I guess you had to be there to find it funny… Had a blast. That’s 2 awards under our belt this year. The other being the “Best New Indie Record Label” from Creative Loafing. Mazel tov!

I Got My First Gold Record!

Mohawk Bomb Artists on Overflow Underground Radio Show
Overflow Radio is a pirate radio show based in the UK, which broadcasts out of a couple of radio stations in UK and Netherlands. Also, from their Website. For the last two weeks, they have been playing tracks from our two releases “Is a RockBand” by Soulfound and No Lip Vol. 1:
The Overflow with Garry Lee – Playlist 296, Hour 2
Soulfound “You Only Get One”
900 Pound Gorilla “Gutterball”
The Overflow with Garry Lee – Playlist 297, Hour 2
New Skool Kings “Here to Stay”
Soulfound “My Kind of Thing”
Also, they selected “Is a Rock Band” as the CD of the week on October 24:
“One of many bands/artists that we’ve met through MySpace… ‘Soulfound’ are a superbly talented 4-piece from Clearwater, [Florida]. They’re unique blend of powerpop-rock is enough to get any party buzzing! A combination of wonderful melodic songs, stunning vocals, harmonies and perfectly toned guitar-riffs make this a mighty fine album.”
Cheers to Garry Lee and long live Overflow Radio!
